Christmas Favorites For Your Family!

One of the most exciting things about the Christmas season, while growing up, was the television Christmas specials. I must admit, if I happen to catch them today, I still get a kick out of them. What a great way to recapture a part of your childhood!

How about you? Do you watch these specials with your kids
or grandchildren?

Here's five to watch on tv or own on dvd:

(1.)A Charlie Brown Christmas
(2.)Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas
(3.)Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer
(4.)Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town
(5.)A Muppet Family Christmas

These five should be a part of any home's Christmas tradition!

"Klaatu Barada Nikto!"

Translation: Hollywood, please don't mess this up!

The Day The Earth Stood Still is considered by many as one of the greatest science fiction movies ever made. It's a fascinating film made in 1951, that has a compelling message that still resonates. It's simple, yet complex.

The alien Klaatu, with his giant robot Gort, comes to earth with a message of peace and a warning for mankind. By today's standards, some may find the special effects hokey. The lack of action may bore others. However, it's the top-notch acting, dialogue, and the movie's message that is spell-binding.

The movie is rife with christian imagery and overtones. If you've never seen it before, you can check it out on dvd and
blu-ray. Let me know what you think.

Which brings me to the upcoming remake, starring Keanu Reeves. I guess, I'm just hoping Hollywood does the original justice. Hopefully, the remake won't be just an action fest with
no redeeming values.

So, Hollywood, please don't mess this up, or you just may get
a visit from Gort!

Update: They messed it up. Go get 'em, Gort!

Another Slice Of Pie?

For many, Thanksgiving is their favorite holiday. It's a day we give thanks for God's goodness in our lives. It's a time to reminisce and to make new memories with family and friends. Also, it's a time of laughter, warmth and of experiencing the feeling of security that accompanies spending time with the ones we love.

So, may your Thanksgiving be filled with much joy, peace and wonderful fellowship. Oh yeah, have another slice of pie.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I Did It!

Yep, it's a done deal! After 20 months of listening to the the presidential candidates articulate their vision for America, this morning I exercised my right as an American and cast my vote.

I did it bright and early to beat the expected record crowds. If you haven't voted yet, please do so sometime today. Your vote really does count.

No matter who wins, I'll always remember the words of an assistant pastor who said, "The Bible says to pray for your leaders, not criticize them." So, let's pray for the leaders we choose today.

Ready, Set, Vote!

Well, yesterday in the mail, I received my voter registration card. So, I'm all set for the presidential election on November 4th! How 'bout you?

No matter what your political persuasions are, the right to vote is a wonderful privilege. How blessed we are to live in a country where we can actually choose the leaders who will guide this great nation!

So, on November 4th, prayerfully take advantage of this awesome responsibility. Carve out of your schedule, an hour or two (or however long it takes) and vote for the candidate of your choice! You'll feel great about it!

See you at the polls!

We're Taken Care Of...

For many Americans, the last few weeks have been a thick, gloomy cloud of anxiety and confusion. After the economic turmoil on Wall St. and two failed bailout attempts, many are terrified of what the future holds.

As Christians, this is the time for us to remember that we serve The One who will "never leave or forsake us." What a great comfort to know that all our needs will be met, and that El Shaddai (The God who's more than enough), will always take care of us.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn

Well, yesterday we bid adieu to my favorite season: summer. It's always tinged with a bit of sadness when summer official ends. But, here in Middle Tennessee, we can look forward to a glorious change of season!

We're blessed to live in an area where we can enjoy fall's gorgeous colors and its crisp invigorating climate. Soon, we'll be enjoying the holidays with family and friends, and looking forward to ushering in a new year. That's not bad at all.

So, hello autumn!

Say A Prayer For The Gulf Coast

Today is the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and her total devastation of the Gulf Coast, including the great city of New Orleans. As a Katrina survivor, I can tell you, that it was a terrible and surreal experience that many still have yet to recover from.

The images you saw on television didn't do justice to the amount of destruction. The scope of the devastation was absolutely mind-boggling. Through God's protection and grace, I now have a new life here in Nashville. Many others didn't or couldn't escape. Those who survived, have a life that will never be the same.

And now the people of the Gulf Coast brace for the possibility of Hurricane Gustav. They've suffered enough...so please, pray for the Gulf Coast.

Belated Thoughts On 'The Dark Knight'

While on vacation, I finally got to see the most talked about movie
of the year - The Dark Knight.

The world, critics and comic book fans all seem to be enamored and fixated with the Joker - one of the most disturbing characters to ever appear on screen.

However, I found Batman to be extremely compelling. As a matter of fact, I found many of his traits and characteristics similar to those that you and I possess.

Stay with me here - he is a man who's flawed and conflicted. At times, aren't we? Yet, he's a man of honor, great compassion, justice, extreme self-sacrifice (doing what's best for others, even when they don't understand or appreciate it) and great power.

These are all spiritual qualities that you and I inherit as children of God. Christ has in essence, equipped us to be spiritual superheroes.

So, those are my thoughts and musings on The Dark Knight. And with that my friends, the balcony is closed.

The World Meets In Beijing!

The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing got underway Friday night. The opening ceremonies drew a whopping 34.2 million television viewers!

There are so many great stories for this XXIX Olympiad, including U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps and his quest to break Mark Spitz's Olympic record of seven gold medals.

It's always a very special time for athletes and the country they represent. So, let's enjoy the competitions. And, oh yeah, 'Go USA'!!!

Our Heroes!

The Titans won their first pre-season game Saturday night, easily defeating the St. Louis Lambs, er, Rams.

Rookie running back Chris Johnson looks like a keeper with a scintillating 66 yard touchdown run!

Next up for our heroes, the Oakland Raiders , Friday night at LP Field.

This is my favorite time of the year. I can't wait for the season to start!

I Will Now Play 'Claire de lune'

...Just not very well. After all these years, I think it's time I learned to play a musical instrument. My instrument of choice is the piano. I'll keep you updated.

Pray for my progress. Oh yeah, pray for my neighbors too. :-)

Hello, El Cajon...

Years ago, CNN's Larry King had a column for USA Today that was free-form and stream of conscious. It was a fascinating must read. So, with apologies to Larry, here we go...

No doubt about it, Nashville is one of America's truly great cities...The scenery and people are terrific. You can't beat the praise and worship in area churches. The musician and singers are first rate... One negative - it's been named the 5th fattest city in America...So, let's all start hitting the treadmill.

Three songs that we play on THE FISH that cause me to crank up the studio monitors and listen to the lyrics...Singing Over Me by Building 429, Ocean Floor from Audio Adrenaline and Jadon Lavik's Come Thy Fount.

Our heroes, the Titans started training camp yesterday. I just hope Vince has enough weapons this year...We've got to sign Albert long-term, don't you think?...To quote John Madden..."Brett Favre is Brett Favre".

It's official, I'm hooked on HGTV [They should have picked house number two!] and The Next Food Network Star...Don't ya love Shark Week on Discovery?...What do you think when you're watching a tv show, and a character from another show walks across the bottom of the screen and waves at you? Yeah, that's what I think too...

The joys of summer...waking up to chirping birds, vacation, swimming pools, live music in the park and last, but not least...Edy's Slow-Churn.

Well gang, that's all for now. Up next...Schenectady, hello!

Happy Birthday America!!!

Hope you're all primed for a long holiday weekend. Whether your 4th involves cookouts, hitting the lake, beach or water parks and of course fireworks, have a safe and happy one!!

The Reviews Are In...

Just got back from seening Iron Man. What a blast!! This has got to be one of the best super hero movies ever made. With a terrific cast : Robert Downey Jr., Gwynneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges, this is the way to kick off the summer with a blockbuster!

Loaded with wonderful acting, astounding special effects, action and a hint of romance, you'll ask "When's Iron Man II?"

I Have A Date With Pepper Potts!!

Well, sort of. I'm going to check out the new Iron Man movie tomorrow. It's a flick that's gotten rave reviews. I'll let you know what I think.

Now let's see... one small popcorn and one small coke for... $17.50??!! (Just kidding, but not by much) :-)

It's Finally Here!

Ok, so here's the deal. I get up early this morning. I wash my car, pick up some goodies from Kroger and do laundry. That flurry of early morning activity can mean only one thing... it's time for the 2008 NFL draft!

Lookin forward to being a couch potato and dissecting the draft today. I usually miss it because of a station event or appearance. So today will consist of consuming cheeseburgers, chips, and butter pecan ice cream (it's ok, I have a great metabolism).

BTW, the weather outside is nice. Hopefully, the Titans won't be in a fog when they pick.

Caught My 1st Concert of The Spring!

It was the Kutless Acoustic Tour last night at World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro. I had the honor of introducing opening act Chris Taylor. The large and appreciative crowd, enjoyed Chris' polished and heart-felt music.

Chris was followed by Esterlyn, whose indie rock sound further impressed the crowd. Kutless then wrapped up the night with their incredible talent.

I was able to meet and greet the guys in Kutless before they took the stage. What a blessing that was!
